The Alliance of Professional Performers NW is a movement of non-union and union performers who are working together to improve the Northwest market. APP-NW members understand that we’re all connected; that what happens in one segment of the Northwest’s entertainment industry effects every other segment. That’s why we work hand-in-hand with our allied organizations to keep our industry healthy and robust.
This solidarity was on full display last year when SAG-AFTRA decided to close Portland’s “brick-and-mortar” office and terminate its local Executive Director Nathaniel Applefield. Union and non-union performers came together (along with producers, crew, and even Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber) to oppose the office closure. Unfortunately SAG-AFTRA would not be swayed and the Portland office was closed, but people around the country took note of the way Northwest actors – union and non – stood together in the face of adversity and fought until the end.
One person who paid particular attention to this phenomenon was SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director David White. Now that the dust has settled from last year’s office closure, Mr. White is visiting Portland on February 24, 2014 to see firsthand what the closure of the Rose City’s office has meant to actors working in Oregon’s film and TV industry. Mr. White will meet with SAG-AFTRA members from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. the doors will be opened to all industry stakeholders – including non-union performers.
We hope you’ll make plans to join us at the NW Oregon Labor Council (3645 S.E. 32nd Ave. Portland, OR 97202) and
- Share your experiences working in Portland with, and without, a brick and mortar office.
- Talk about your career plans and challenges.
- Express your worries and concerns.
- Contribute your hopes and dreams for our profession, and SAG-AFTRA, in Portland.
Portland’s SAG-AFTRA local wants to share your questions with Mr. White! Please send your questions for the National Executive Director to email@example.com, and please note your union status in your message! The deadline to submit questions is February 21, so don’t wait!
No RSVP is necessary for the event; please contact SAG-AFTRA Executive Director Brad Anderson at (206) 282-2506 or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
We do hope you’ll join us to educate Mr. White about the current realities of working in the Portland area. As the official notice from SAG-AFTRA put it, “The past is behind us. On Monday Feb. 24, let’s create a future. Together.”
