As you know, the Alliance of Professional Performers – NW is a movement of not-union and union performers committed to improving and increasing the level of professionalism within our industry; and to protecting Performers through the establishment of workplace standards. Our union members may have received a message in the past week from SAG-AFTRA about a national census the union is conducting:
When Halloween comes to an end, something important will occur that affects how you and your fellow members will be represented in union governance matters for the next two years.
A count of Local membership (a census) will determine the representation of Locals in the SAG-AFTRA Governance system. To make sure your Local has maximum voting power on the SAG-AFTRA National Board and at the SAG-AFTRA Convention in 2015 we need you to be counted.
In order to be counted in this census, your May 2014 dues must be paid by Friday, Oct. 31, at 11:59 p.m. PT.
To check your balance and to pay your dues online by credit card, log into your member account on SAGAFTRA.org.
If you have any further questions, please call Cashiering at (323) 549-6752 during normal business hours.
Let’s make sure every member in your Local counts — and if you’ve paid your dues bill from last May, thank you.
***Special Note: This census notice is regarding any May 2014 dues owed and does not include the November 2014 dues bill that you will receive later this month.***
We’d like to encourage every union member within APP-NW to be sure their dues are up-to-date (at least through May 2014.) As the message above indicates, the results of this census will play a role in how the union allocates its resources; every dues-paying member plays a role in assuring that Portland gets the attention and support it deserves from SAG-AFTRA.
AND SPEAKING OF SAG-AFTRA…
Portland’s SAG-AFTRA Local is holding a new member orientation!
When: Saturday, Nov. 8

New to SAG-AFTRA? Have questions about membership? If you’ve recently joined or know someone considering joining, here is your chance to attend an orientation for new and prospective members. If you have not been to an orientation before or would like to learn about the many services SAG-AFTRA offers, this is the meeting for you. SAG-AFTRA staff will be on-hand to provide information on membership services, dues and billing, and eligibility requirements, and to answer your questions. The first hour will be open ONLY to SAG-AFTRA members in good standing.
During the second hour, Patricia Callaghan of Union Plus will be in attendance to inform members of the wide range of exciting benefits available, from home loans to discounts on goods and services, insurance and legal assistance – even strike pay. The presentation will be open to prospective members and performers interested in receiving information about membership and eligibility to join SAG-AFTRA. If you know someone interested in joining, please encourage them to attend beginning at 11 a.m.
Seating is limited so please RSVP by Friday, Nov. 7 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The New Member Orientation is only open to paid-up SAG-AFTRA members in good standing. Unfortunately, no guests allowed. Parents/guardians of younger performers under 18 years old are welcome. SAG-AFTRA MEMBERS, PLEASE BRING YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD (paid through Oct. 31, 2014 or April 30, 2015) FOR ADMITTANCE.
We hope every APP-NW member who’s a SAG-AFTRA member in good standing (of any length of membership) or has questions about the union makes the time to attend – whether you’re looking for a refresher, an update or just have questions about what union membership means to you!
